Today in the office was a lot calmer. We stayed in Gebäude 5, Raum 5 for the whole day, except for lunch.
During the morning, there was not too much for me to do. I ended up researching Switzerland and seeing what Amy, Eric, and I would be able to do for a weekend there. So far, it looks promising! The site look interesting, and the views are apparently breath-taking. Once 11:30 came, I was off to the Mensa to get water ready for the students again.
This time, I did it by myself, which was not a terrible thing. I had less water cups to fill, since not all of the waters were gone yesterday, and Claudia, one of my co-workers, came up with a wonderful idea to shorten the amount of time my task took - instead of carrying each cup (Becher) out to the table individually, she suggested I use a few trays from upstairs and use it to take more cups each trip. I ended up filling about 5 trays of water, setting them out, and my work was done in half the time.
I decided to grab lunch from the Mensa again, which had two options today. I opted for the vegetarian option, which was a type of fried dumpling with sauce. They were pretty good! In looking for people to sit with, I found a group of Brazilian students who were already sitting down. We got to talking, and one of the guys suggested that I check out Switzerland while I am here - what a coincidence that I was looking up travel information to that very place about an hour before! They told me all about their trip and it verified that I definitely want to visit the country. They had pictures and everything! It was really great to meet a group of such friendly guys.
After I finished with my lunch, I headed back to my room for the remaining hour of my lunch break.
Back at work, I had a few tasks to complete for the office. One of my jobs was to help students make their payment for the Intensivkurs, which was only a few times. I also began getting some stuff ready for the RIO Intensivkurs that will begin next week on Monday.
Once my day was over, I decided to go on the city tour of Reutlingen with the course participants. There ended up only being about 30 of us (out of a group of over 120 people), and we began our tour by walking towards the beautiful walking trails and soccer stadium. We took a bus from the nearby bus stop, Kreuzeiche, and headed to the Stadtmitte. Max showed us the big things in Reutlingen - the Marktplatz (marketplace), a part of the remaining city wall, the smallest street in the world, the movie theater, and a few bars that students have been known to frequent. We ended at the Weindorf, and tried to figure out what we were going to do afterwards.
A big group of us decided to grab a bite to eat in the Weindorf, where I grabbed a brat and had a nice conversation with one of the students who came from New York. Then, once everyone had some food, we headed over to a bar/restaurant named Alexandre, which is on the Marktplatz. I grabbed a Cola-Weizen, which was delicious, and we all hung out for a while. I met more of the Mexican students who are in Reutlingen and talked more with the Brazilian students.
After about an hour, I ended up heading home. Another girl decided to go with me, and we headed to the bus station. It was really interesting to talk with her! She came from Mexico and spoke mostly Spanish. She was learning German and knew some English, and we were trying to converse in English. There was a lot of hand motions to try to communicate what we were saying.
Once we got home, she went back to her building, and I to mine.
Ready for another busy day tomorrow!
