After a long
day of flying on Sunday afternoon and night, I made it to my final destination
without a hitch.
Yes, the quarters were cramped; yes, the fact that my carry-on
bag got checked in at O'Hare and was returned to me in Stuttgart (leaving me to
literally carry on all of my necessary items for both flights) was unfortunate;
it honestly could have been a lot worse! There were no screaming children or
snoring row-mates, and the food was edible.
I also
somehow managed to get my luggage checked without any extra fees for either bag
being too large - one bag was EXACTLY 50.0 pounds. Now, I don't mean to toot my
own horn, but that's pretty impressive. Thank goodness for my family in Chicago
and luggage carts, my wonderful new boss, Herr Veit, and his son on the flip
side! My luggage that weighed an impressive 85+ pounds would have been nearly
impossible to manage on my own.
Once Herr
Veit and his son dropped me off at about 9:30 a.m. at Wurm Haus on good ol'
Pestalozzistraße, I didn't allow myself to sit down and relax - running on only
2.5 hours of sleep, and the kind of sleep one gets while in a sitting position
in a crowded and turbulent plane at that, it would have been dangerous to
relax. After figuring out the password situation on the computer provided for
the Reutlingen intern, I made sure to let my family and friends know that I
arrived safely!
I'll definitely miss my friends and family back home. They left me with a very warm goodbye and I cannot wait to be back in their arms at Christmastime!
A care package from friends :)
I'll miss my pup while I'm away!
Wish me luck on my second first day in the city of Reutlingen. Despite missing my family and friends already, I sure have missed this green, beautiful city.
