They have
arrived :) I went to work today (I was sleepy, but I was there!) and was so
excited to know that my Valpo friends had arrived. On my lunch break, I did my
usual thing - I ate some lunch and settled down for a much-needed nap. Less
than 5 minutes into my nap, however, I heard familiar, English-speaking voices.
I walked out into the hallway to discover that Gabi and Amanda, two of my
sorority sister, were living the floor above me in Wurm Haus!
I also
learned, later that day, that Eric was on the 6th floor of Wurm Haus, and
another pair of women were on the 3rd floor of Wurm Haus. How lucky am I to
have the people that I know the best in my dorm! Most of the other Valpo
students are in Litt Haus, a nearby dorm. Once I got off of work, I ended up
going for dinner with some very sleepy Valpo students to the nearby Campus
Kebab.
Being in Campus Kebab with students who didn't speak a word of Germany reminded me of Amy. I had to help these new students order their food, as well as pay for it. I really
enjoy being not only a friend, but a point of reference. It is
great to be able to look back on my times as a study abroad student and give
advice for how I dealt with stuff when I was abroad. Many of these things that
I have been able to give some insight into are also things I have dealt with
within the last few weeks or am dealing with currently.
Once we
were done with dinner, a few of us took a walk around the beautiful Reutlingen
trails. We ended up turning a way that I had never gone before and it was a new
adventure for all of us! Apparently there is a public pool near the university
that I never knew about, as well as an Imbisstube.
Once we got
back, Allie and Sarah went to go to sleep, while Eric and I (long over our jet
lag) decided to watch a movie. Despite wanting to stay up later, I ended up going
to bed before the movie was completely over.
It has been a long few
days and rest is definitely necessary, though!
The deferment struggle continues...
